Introduction to Niti Aayog Registration
Niti Aayog registration enables NGOs uniquely enrolled with the government which provides multiple benefits to them such as getting details of government grants, schemes, funding & Unique ID as well as providing details about other existing NGOs across India.
For that purpose, the government has now, made it mandatory for all NGOs/Societies/Trusts to take registration in Niti Aayog before approaching any government department to present their project/apply for government welfare scheme funding from them.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:
Details of Chief Functionary/Chairman/Secretary/Other Office Bearers
KYC Document of the above persons: PAN card & Aadhar card.
PAN card of the organization.
Registration certificate of the organization.
Memorandum & Articles of Association (MoA & AoA), in case of Company (sec 8 or sec25)
NGO DARPAN BY NITI AYOG:
The Government of India has started Niti Aayog to create and promote a healthy partnership between NGOs/VOs and the Government of India. Niti Aayog has initiated a portal named NGO-Darpan. This portal enables VOs/NGOs to enroll centrally and thus facilitates the creation of a repository of information about NGOs/VOs, sector-wise/state-wise.
BENEFITS OF NITI AYOG REGISTRATION:
As explained above, the government aims to maintain a centralized database of all NGOs/trusts/societies desirous of working for the welfare of society and wants to raise funds/grants from a government department to achieve their objectives.
It increases the credibility of NGOs / Trust / Society which helps them to get a donation from the general public.
At the time of FCRA registration, a NITI Aayog unique ID is required but currently it is optional.
It is mandatory to get Niti Aayog registration to get government funding.
NGO Darpan Portal maintains a database of Blacklisted NGOs also.
It raises the credibility of Trust/Society/NGO, which helps them get a general public donation.
The databases of all the presently active and blacklisted Non-Government Organizations are maintained with the help of the NGO Darpan Portal.
With the NGO Darpan portal, you can directly apply for the grant offered by the Indian Government, you want to avail.
LAW RELATED TO NITI AAYOG REGISTRATION:
Any VO / NGO that is registered as a trust/ society/ a private limited non-profit company, under section-25 Company of the Indian Companies Act, 1956 is eligible to get Registered under Niti Aayog.
CAN AN INDIVIDUAL REGISTER UNDER NITI AAYOG
Generally, no individual can register under NITI AAYOG. Only voluntary organizations/non government organization
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR NITI AYOG REGISTRATION:
A valid email address and valid mobile number.
PAN Card, Aadhaar card of the governing bodies.
Trust deed, Social registration certificate.
PAN number of valid Society /Trust/ NGO.
STEPS FOR REGISTRATION ON NITI AYOG:
You have to visit the online website of NGO Darpan.
Once you visit the home page of the website, then you have to click on Login or Register link and click on the “Sign Up” button.
Provide the full name of the NGO (non-government-organization) or VO (voluntary organization), mobile number, and email id of the contact person. Put security code and submit the request, and after that, you have to provide PAN details of NGO or VO.
Once you submit all the details, you will receive an OTP on your given email id and mobile number. After the verification of OTP, now generate a password for further login purposes.
After generating a password, come to the home page of the website and use the “Sign In” option to login. For that, you need to enter your login ID and password. Once you logged in, you will find the PAN Number and Name of the Non-Government Organization or Voluntary Organization as pre-filed.
Now you have to provide the following details to proceed further.
Detailed address of an NGO.
NGO or VO registration authority.
Provide the Registration Number and upload a copy of the RC for verification.
Name of the Act and Registration date under this Act.
Provide details of all other registration, if registered like GST Registration, FCRA Registration, etc.
Now you have to provide a minimum of three members’ details of Founder Members or Executive Committee or Office Bearers as on the date of application.
After that, you must provide details of all sources of funds received from the Government Bodies in the last five years.
Provide details of the main person, who can be contacted in case of any questions.
Now you have to provide details regarding NGO or VO Core area of working with state details. This is an essential part because you will receive a grant from the departments of the Government according to their working area.
Once you provide all the details mentioned above, your profile is 100% complete, and then you can apply for NITI Aayog NGO Registration.
After applying, your file is sent for processing to the respective officer.
Once you submit the application and all the vital documents, the officer will approve your application or ask for additional documents if required.
Once your application is approved, you will be allotted a Unique ID which will be used in the future for all communication purposes with the Government.

From the above, it is clear that all the NGOs and Voluntary Organizations in India must get registered under NITI Aayog. The Non-Government Organization has to register on the NGO Darpan website of GOI to get a unique ID before applying for taking donations under different government schemes.
